Enterprise is offering up to 50% off van rental to plumbers that drive older vans into Central London regularly, if they take advantage of the Mayor’s newly announced van scrappage scheme.
Aimed at SMEs, the van scrappage scheme means smaller plumbing businesses can save money, avoid additional charges when they drive into London’s Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) and help to improve air quality in the capital.
Businesses and charities with fewer than 10 employees and a maximum turnover below £632,000 per year can now exchange or ‘scrap’ their existing older vans and claim up to £3,500 per vehicle to switch to the cleanest models, including electric vehicles. The £23 million van scrappage fund is one of the Mayor of London’s latest measures to tackle air pollution.
The scheme is especially appealing as the introduction of the ULEZ in April means that older diesel vans that do not meet the latest Euro 6 emissions standard have to pay an additional £12.50 a day to drive in the Congestion Charging Zone in Central London. Given that the average van on UK roads is more than seven years old, the ULEZ charge could affect hundreds of thousands of British van drivers.
Plumbers can also now take advantage of a number of special van rental offers:

Enterprise has more than 9,000 vans available in London and the South East, all of which are fully Euro 6-compliant and many of which are parked in on-street bays and accessible online or via mobile app 24/7.
Ben Lawson, Vice President of Strategy and Project Development for the UK & Ireland at Enterprise, said: “Many smaller plumbing businesses operating in and around London are utterly reliant on their vans for work. Many may find themselves liable for a big daily charge if they drive their older vehicles into the ULEZ. The van scrappage scheme allows them to trade those older, more polluting and less efficient vehicles in for cash.
“That money can be used to buy new vehicles, or for rental programmes through companies like Enterprise if that level of investment is not suitable or feasible for the business right now. We’ve set up our rental discount programme to give plumbers a real alternative – access to the latest vehicles, on demand, when and where they need them.”
