Pimlico Plumbers, the UK’s largest independent home services company, has achieved record sales of £29.02m for its financial year 2015-16, buoyed by a growing trend for planned out-of-hours job booking from commercial and private customers.
The central London-based company has seen turnover increase by 16.1 percent (£3.97m) on its previous financial year, which has been delivered through 45 consecutive months of record sales.
Pimlico Plumbers ended its financial year in May 2016 with sales of £2.62m, 21 percent up on the equivalent month in 14-15, which was the third highest month for sales behind November 2015 (£2.65m) and January 2016 (£2.93m).
Its sales growth has continued into the current financial year with revenue for June increasing by £814,000 to £1.82m ,a 44 percent on the previous year.
The growth has been supported by a sustained programme of investment in the business, which provides a range of home services including plumbing and heating, electrical, drains, roofing, carpentry, small building works and appliance installation and maintenance.
In addition to its ongoing investment in its Lambeth-based headquarters, which features one of central London’s largest 24-hour contact centres, and upgrades to its technology systems, the company has also grown its workforce. More than 25 engineers and a dozen support staff joined the business in the last financial year to help meet demand from customers.
As a result, the company’s fleet of iconic blue and white plumbing vans, many of which sport plumbing-related number plates such as BOG1, 7OILET and LOO20LD, has grown by 20 percent in the last year.
While its ability to respond quickly to emergency call outs contributes a strong proportion of its business, Pimlico Plumbers also delivers planned maintenance and refurbishment projects, such as kitchen and bathroom installations, which have become an area of growth as a result of the increasing trend for out-of-hours projects.
The changing work patterns of London’s workforce and pressure on businesses to reduce downtime to a minimum has led to an increase in non-emergency job booking at Pimlico Plumbers after 8pm and, on occasions at times, such as 2am.
Charlie Mullins, Managing Director of Pimlico Plumbers, said: “The changing economic and social structure of London is proving that the capital has truly become the city that never sleeps. We’ve always been a 24-hours-a-day business, but that has mainly been to serve our emergency call-out customers. With this increase in what used to call ‘out-of-hours’ jobs we’ve cemented our position as a reliable round-the-clock operation.”
Charlie added: “I am very proud of the sustained growth we’ve achieved in the business, which is testament to our forward planning to anticipate market changes and the dedication of all of our employees. We also have a loyal and growing customer base, which appreciates the consistent high level of service we provide, day or night.”
