Sensata Technologies has been driving advances in sensing technology with a pedigree that spans more than one hundred years. As such it can rightfully describe itself as a global leader in the design, customisation and manufacture of mission-critical sensors and controls. To give some idea of its size, the company today has operations in 12 countries around the world and sells more than 47,000 unique products. It ships some 1.1 billion units annually.
First and foremost, the company is an engineering-focused business, with a mission to empower engineers across a diverse range of sectors and industries to create smarter, more connected solutions for their design challenges. Within the plumbing and Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) sectors, for example, Sensata manufactures a broad range of pressure switches, pressure sensors, temperature sensors, thermostats, and motor protectors which are designed to ultimately deliver safer, more efficient and more reliable systems.
One of Sensata’s best-selling products is its 116CP Series water pressure sensor. Using industry-leading ceramic capacitive technology, and housed in a small and innovative plastic package, the 116CP Series is designed specifically for use within boilers, pumps and other light industrial applications and delivers a very high degree of accuracy. Smaller, lower powered and digital output versions of the sensor are also being developed.
In terms of pressure switches and sensors, and specifically those used in air conditioning and refrigeration units, Sensata’s best-selling products i
nclude the PS80 Series of automatic reset pressure switches and the 2CP Series of pressure sensors. The former switches are hermetically sealed and offer a wide range of pressure settings, port fittings and electrical connections. They are available in quick connect or wire leaded construction. The latter sensors feature a compact, durable design and deliver accurate performance over a wider range of temperatures.
Fixed temperature thermostats such as Sensata’s 1NT and 3NT Series are also popular. The former is used as either a regulating or over-temperature safety switch, and millions are used daily in a wide range of applications; the latter is an automatic reset thermostat which has the 1NT at its core but has a patented, tamper-proof snap-acting bimetal disc to provide reliable, repeatable switch actuation. The switch is protected from water, dust, oil etc by a unique dry seal design.
A theme that carries through the entire range of products is their reliability and performance. More than 100-years of experience has gone into their manufacture and design, and this in turn enables them to be used in the broadest range of applications.
