March 10, 2017

Superior, a leading manufacturer of high integrity o-rings and seals, awarded 21 year old Ashleigh Phillips as its Apprentice of the Year, at an exclusive event on Wednesday March 8 at its headquarters in Ferndown.

The free event ‘Everything You Wanted To Know About Apprenticeships But Were Afraid To Ask’ took place at Superior to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week (Monday March 6 – Friday March 10). It was attended by a variety of local Dorset employers, including Elite Marine Solutions and Whitefox Chartered Surveyors, showcasing how apprentices can benefit and add value to a business.

Ashleigh, who is currently in the fourth year of her apprenticeship, working in the Quality Department at Superior, was credited for her work ethic, attitude and for being the most improved apprentice of 2016.

Apprentices from Superior and JP Morgan delivered presentations about their apprenticeship journey and Bournemouth and Poole College were on hand to answer questions about the Apprenticeship Levy.

Superior has 20 apprentices going through its Academy programme, accepting people directly from school at 16 years old, through to A-Level students and university graduates.

Tim Brown MBE, managing director of Superior, said: “I’m delighted that Ashleigh has been given our ‘Apprentice of the Year’ accolade. She has a determined nature, which has helped her succeed and has taken on board the mentorship feedback and pushed her performance to levels which she may not have believed she could achieve.

“Our Superior Academy programme has proven to be very successful for us and our apprentices, so we hosted an event for local businesses during National Apprenticeship Week, highlighting ways that apprentices can add value to companies. Building on the success of last year’s event we wanted to open up the event to include all industries, not just for manufacturing and engineering companies.”
