How To Unblock Your Toilet in 6 Easy Steps
We all know that feeling... After a hard day at work, you finally come back home with the only desire to take off these awful shoes with high heels. You come to the toilet, finish your work and try to flush the toilet. And then...surprise. It backs up. There are very few feelings in this world similar to this one. The mixture of anger, confusion, and disability to figure out the problem is unique. So, what do we do know (except panic)?
1. Flush
Only once. Otherwise, you will feel the wrath of Gods. If it doesn't flush the first time, it won't the second.
2. Cover The Area
Newspapers, old towels or clothes. Anything you are willing to throw up. If the situation gets worse and the toilet starts to overflow, you can prevent some part of the mess.
3. A Possible Salvation
A plunger. These things can save lives. They are as magical and powerful as wizards. Or at least you pray they are. Push the plunger into the hole with fast and energetic moves. Again and again.
4. Soap
Whatever soap you can mix with some hot water. Then rapidly pour it into the toilet. Wait a couple of minutes. If the level of the water still not decreases, you'll have some serious problems there. Not that you don't already know that.
Note: If you know what caused the blockage and its something very hard(like a childish toy) don't waste your time with this method. It's not going to work.
5. A Hanger
Take an old hanger you are willing to sacrifice and unravel it. Simply break the tops of the hanger and they will be no longer connected. Wrap the one end with some sort of a rag. Put on some gloves(you don't want to get dirty) and let the games begin :) Put the wire in the drain and push as much as you can. Try to understand where the blockage is. Reach all the possible areas. This method works only if the block is in the initial part of the pipe.
6. It's Snake Time
Your toilet is definitely revenging you for some reason, but do not give up. You still have one last chance. The Snake. Every house has to have one. If you skipped this, run to the local shop to buy it. A very useful tool. So, put the snake into the toilet. Repeat the procedure with the hanger. The aim is to figure where the blockage is and what caused it.
If it's still not working, maybe you have some serious problem with the whole system which only a plumber can deal with successfully. If this is the case, don't hesitate to call a professional.
