Superior apprentices run The Extra Mile for Julia’s House

March 21, 2017

Superior, a leading manufacturer based in Dorset, hosted its own ‘Apprentice Extra Mile Marathon’ on Saturday March 18 to raise funds for Julia’s House.

This year Superior is sponsoring The Extra Mile, a new fundraising concept for Julia’s House. As part of its sponsorship, the manufacturing company marked out a mile circuit in the factory car park, encouraging apprentices to take part in the run. The apprentices launched the event by raising money and completing their own Extra Mile Marathon.

13 Superior apprentices, aged 16 to 24, completed the marathon in a relay style, dressed in colourful headbands, leg warmers and tutus. The apprentices raised more than £1,000 with the ‘Apprentice Extra Mile Marathon’ for Julia’s House.

Superior has its own company-run Academy, offering apprenticeships to students from as young as 16, through to graduates, giving apprentices the chance to learn about engineering, science and manufacturing. Working closely in conjunction with local schools and colleges, Superior's aim is to get students of all ages interested in science and engineering.

Sue Byrne, quality systems manager at Superior, said: “Our apprentices had a great time taking part in The Extra Mile challenge on Superior apprentices run The Extra Mile for Julia’s HouseSaturday, taking it in turns to run a mile around the car park.  I’m extremely proud of all the apprentices; they all put in such a great effort.

“At Superior, we love to take on new challenges that push us to achieve more. Our apprentices are good sports and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

“We chose to sponsor The Extra Mile for Julia’s House as it’s for a good cause and we want to get behind this unique fundraiser to help encourage children in schools to take up exercise.”

Adam Cook, apprentice at Superior, commented: “It was so much fun taking part in this event and raising money for a great charity. I think it’s brilliant that the money raised for The Extra Mile events is split 50/50 between Julia’s House and the participating schools.”

Children in local schools are encouraged to run, skip or hop a mile to raise funds for their school and also for Julia’s House as part of The Extra Mile. Julia’s House is a Dorset and Wiltshire children’s hospice charity which supports life-limited children and their families.
