Heatable’s a northern tech startup hoping to revolutionise the boiler buying process, and go to toe-to-toe with the heating industry's giants.
A northern tech startup has launched the UK’s first consumer focussed, price comparison website which is dedicated to the heating industry. It’s aiming to give quality, small to medium size installers an opportunity to promote their own transparent quotes, costs and deals on a platform where the large big budget corporations such as British Gas, are nowhere to be seen.
The team behind Heatable are no strangers to the industry. In fact, their parent company LoveLeads have been generating new business leads for several years using traditional techniques. But, the quality of ‘able to pay’ leads generated in this way is something that has never sat quite right with Managing Director, Sam Price. He explains:
“We’ve been providing new business leads to the heating industry in various forms, and throughout this time, we’ve seen every other market embrace technology to help consumers, except for ours.Need to book a holiday? You’ll use Booking.com. Need to book a taxi? You’ll use Uber. Need to buy a new boiler? You’ll be using Heatable”
He adds: “Consumers don’t want to be hassled by pushy salesman at unsociable hours. They want to do things in their own time, on their terms, from the comfort and safety of their own homes. Heatable applies this common sense approach to what is typically a laborious time-consuming process, and to a certain degree, makes it fun.”
Users answer some quick-fire questions about their home and its current heating system. Then, based on their answers, Heatable’s system will calculate a range of different
packages and prices from vetted installers who are able to help in their area. If they wish to, they are then able request further details from up to three of the installers, directly. In terms of lead quality, it’s this transparency and control over who contacts them and when, that Heatable believes will set them apart.
Based on Heatable’s own statistics, only 5% of people looking for a new boiler online are at a stage where they would want to proceed with a home survey, and subsequent installation. Worryingly the other 95% could, and often would still be sold to installers as leads through traditional lead generators. This means a huge number of consumers are receiving calls they don’t want from installers they don’t know. On the flip side, the installers time and money is being wasted too. Heatable is hoping to put an end to this, and offers something new to the heating industry that’s great for customers and boiler installers alike.
Their ambition is to become a household name and be the go-to-place for everyone looking to replace their boiler – eventually giving every installer, no matter their size or marketing budget, an even shot at a genuine boiler buyers’ custom.
In an industry dominated by large corporations where lead generation has a bad name, it’s not cut and dry that Heatable will be a hit, but there’s no denying it’s a step in the right direction that’s offering the heating industry something new and giving smaller installers the opportunity to grow their business in a way that they probably couldn’t have done before.
